Insurance

Insurance companies provide financial products, with brokers acting as a link between the insurer and the market, selling products to customers. Essentially the insurance sector provides financial protection to businesses and individuals who use it to protect them and their property from unseen risks. Opportunities for graduates are available in underwriting, managing operations, sales and marketing and claims.

Insurance is a people-orientated business so if you're looking to work in the sector you need to have good interpersonal and communication skills. Graduate roles are often fast tracked to management roles so you need to posses the confidence and skills to lead or manage teams of people and enjoy working in an environment that is fast paced and varied.

Yorkshire has a large number of Insurance organisations ranging from large organisations like Norwich Union, Allied Dunbar and AXA to small and medium sized organisations based across the region.

Larger organisations tend to have graduate training schemes and places can be competitive. Having some good work experience behind you in a similar industry or role and some demonstration of leadership through sporting or societal activities whilst at University can make you more attractive to potential employers.
