Web Technologies
According to the DTI, 86% of all businesses in Yorkshire are connected to the internet with about a quarter of these trading online, using the internet for both ordering and paying for goods and services. These figures are above the national average meaning there's a high requirement for trained and knowledge employees with skills in web development, technologies and e-commerce.
There are employers across the region ranging from SMEs to larger recruiters in both the public and private sector.
Entry into the industry requires a good relevant degree and graduates with experience in Java, C++, telecoms and Wap knowledge are highly sought after and high-level database skills such as Unix and Linux are also in demand. If you haven't covered these as part of your course but are looking to build on your skills accredited evening courses in a wide range of web technologies are run at colleges across the region.
A new training initiative, the Graduate Professional Development Award, is run by e-skills UK in collaboration with employers and educators and offers the option to specialise in internet services delivery. For this region, the course is run by Leeds Metropolitan University.
