The recruitment industry in the UK today is booming and is set for continued growth. It's also a sector with a high staff turner and talented and hard working graduates are often in demand.

The industry is large and diverse and can broadly be divided into three distinct types of business; executive search, contingency selection and temporary agencies. Almost every business area you can think of, from IT to retail to hospitality, has recruitment firms which specialise in that sector. There are countless opportunities for graduates with the right skills and aptitudes to work across a broad range of sectors.

There are many recruitment agencies across all sectors and of all types in the Yorkshire region, primarily in town and city centre locations. These range from global, multi office operations that may have several divisions all specialising in a business sector through to small niche agencies with only one or two staff.

Despite this diversity there are common attributes that recruitment firms will look for when recruiting graduates. You'll need to be a strong sales person, have a good customer focus, be proactive, self motivated and commercially aware. You'll also have to be an excellent communicator and be strong willed and determined as the business can often be demanding.

It takes a particular sort of graduate to really make it in the area of recruitment but if you have the confidence, the determination and the drive, the rewards and career progression can really be worth the effort.
