Voluntary & Charity
Provision of Client Services
This sector covers a variety of organisations which offer a wide range of services, sometimes undertaking contracted work from local authorities and other agencies. Service-provision may include: support groups, research, advocacy, helplines, refuge centres, meals-on-wheels delivery, day care services and other community-based support roles. They may also assist in the development of other charities in the area such as the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and Councils for Voluntary Services.
Community Workers often help local community groups develop their organisation, providing assistance in aspects like budget management.
There may be a greater need for some types of organisations in different areas within the region such as care centres for the elderly in large cities or home visiting for those in isolated rural areas.
Remember, although there may not be current, paid opportunities with a particular charity you can gain valuable experience as a volunteer, which can be necessary to gain your first permanent paid position.
